The writing is good. The editing is good. The story line is fine. There was WAY too much front story. The couple didn't even meet til after 50% of the book. And then she disappeared. A couple of times. These are supposed to be romance books (after all, it is about true mates), but there was hardly any of it in this one. It was a disappointment. Who ever would have thought Mac would be the calm one ever but when compared to his mate it seems he is. She's definitely going to need some work on the brain to mouth filter but I think Mac can help her with that...did I just write that?!...yes...yes...I did...Mac has really shown the side of him I always knew was there from book one in his story his soft side he was just using his grumpiness to hide hurt and to protect himself. He's still always going to be Mac that's never going to change always going to be a little twisted and have that hard give'um hell attitude but you got to see his soft side and I liked that! And Rogue was definitely made for him sure just as give'um hell as he is if not worse! But when you've had to walk through what they both have it changes you leaves it's scares ...they all have them...Mac and Rogues are just different from the rest of them.
This is book 5 in the series. Please read them in order so you know the characters and can follow the prophecy. There are cop shifters trying to find their one true mates, whom are 1/2 angles and fighting the evil Khain. Love, action, and laughs.
Overview. Mac has had a hard time connecting to the other wolf shiften's. The only one he does seam to work well with is the odd man out their bear shiften Bruin. The create a bearomance instead of a bromance. But when Bruin (sees the future) tells Mac he will meet his mate at the rut but not in a normal way, Mac tries his best to find her before that happens. But even more, Mac soon find nods out that they have crossed paths several times in life. But Rouge doesn't want to give in to him. She has had to fight her way through life since she was 5. No way was she going to let a man have her, make her a wife, even worse make her have kids or pups. So the two have to fight it out. That is until Khain makes his presence in the world again.
Lisa Ladew's OTM5 heroine, Rogue, is perfect for Mac! He doesn't a sweet heroine. He needs a snarky, smart-mouth woman that can go toe to toe with him! Rogue is that woman! She makes Mac work for his one true mate. He is happy to. She transforms him and he transforms her. I loved this story. There is an HEA but there is a cliffhanger for the next OTM book 6 but not for Mac's and Rogue's story. Some might say that Rogue is to rough around the edges but that roughness is just what Mac needs to get smoothed out himself. He needs a woman that can kick his ass both in and out of bed! I highly recommend this book! You won't be disappointed!
I enjoyed Shifter’s Rogue; however, I couldn’t give it more stars because Rogue became a very unlikable character. Thankfully, the story ended well so her attitude was more forgivable.
I liked Rogue in the beginning of the story, and she obviously had trust issues. She has been on her own since she was 14yrs old so obviously a lot of mental & emotional baggage can build in that time. Also, to make a story worth reading, there should be a struggle between the two main characters to keep it interesting and avoid the love-at-first-sight cliché.
However, Rogue doesn’t admit to Mac she even KINDA, and I mean even a LITTLE bit, likes him until the 83% mark of the book. Yeah, she mentions it in her mind before she shuts the thought down but she doesn’t even act interested in being an acquaintance of his to his face. Nothing. Then, to make it worse, she gets downright mean (thankfully Mac finds this endearing and puts up w/ it). She became annoying and unnecessarily rude in my opinion. If she had dropped the protective barriers sooner, or at least quit being so insulting earlier than 83% of the book, she would have been a much more likable character. Her initial attitude was understandable, and even funny/enjoyable but after so long, and with Mac being so nice to her, her attitude becomes more bitchy, which was maybe the author’s intention, however it made her character extremely unlikable.
She obviously gets over it and they end up in a loving relationship; however, I would have preferred her character to drop the bitchiness a lot sooner to make the overall story much more enjoyable.
I’m going through this series in order. In my review of the previous book, I complained about how all the women were virgins before hooking up with their guys. So relieved that wasn’t the case in this book.
Rogue gives Mac a run for his money, although, my main complaint was that it wasn’t until the 50% mark that they actually met, and the 60% mark that they were together for any length of time. I mean, I get it, with this series the overall story is a strong connection, but with this one, it feels like it’s taking longer to maneuver the two together. It was worth it when these two finally met. I just wish a lot of the lead-up was shortened or folded more during their actual time together. Somehow.
I love Bruin the bear, and all the puns, but it started feeling more like a bro-bearmance than anything else. Maybe Mac should have asked Bru to join them? ;-) I’d have been happy with that!
Mac & Rogue are a great pair. Rogue, a Fated Mate with uncanny stealth powers with a crusty, onery wolfen cop who doesn't let go, or give up. But almost stealing the story from this fated pair is the bromance between Mac, a man who doesn't make friends, and Bruin, the Bearen firefighter turned wannabe cop. The comraderie, solidarity and hilarity between these two is captivating. Clearly, Bruin is a quirky, insightful, enigma who will make an impact of his own. Rogue grew up hard on the streets of Chicago. She's determined to stay free and independent of male entanglements, almost to extremes. Mac is determined to simply convince her that he is hers. This story reflects Mac with insecurity and vulnerability when faced with Rogue's stubborness. It's a refreshing side to see of such a stoic male. A funny, yet exciting, story on this alternate Earth.
